Kraken to Supply KATFISH Seabed Survey System to Asia

Sep 13, 2023Sep 13, 2023

Kraken Robotics has been awarded a $9.5 million contract to supply a high-speed minehunting solution to an Asia-Pacific nation.

According to the Canada-based marine technology firm, the agreement covers the delivery of its KATFISH towed Synthetic Aperture Sonar, Tentacle Winch system, and the Autonomous Launch and Recovery System (ALARS).

These components will be integrated into a vessel of opportunity selected by the unspecified foreign customer.

In addition to the minehunting solution, Kraken will provide spare parts, training, and other support and sustainment services.

"Continuing to build off successful KATFISH deliveries with various NATO navies, this represents Kraken's first KATFISH system sale in the Asia-Pacific region," the company stated in a press release.

The solution will be delivered to the customer in the second quarter of 2023.

Kraken's KATFISH is a high-speed survey system that provides "ultra-high resolution" imagery and bathymetry of the seabed.

The data collected by the solution provides operators with actionable intelligence about enemy subsea assets, including pipelines and fiber optic cables.

It also helps ensure the safety of key transit routes by providing hydrographic information.

Kraken Robotics said its KATFISH solution has been integrated into a wide variety of manned and unmanned vessels to support standalone seabed mapping missions.
