Nov 05, 2023Longmont conducting annual Shock Art competition
Longmont's Art in Public Places is calling for model submissions for the 2023 Shock Art program.
Artists must submit their painted model for electric boxes around Longmont by completing the online submission form at bit.ly/3IRnpjB by 4 p.m. on June 16. Artists also have to deliver their model to either the Longmont Museum and Cultural Center, 400 Quail Road, or the Longmont Downtown District Authority, 320 Main St.
Models must be 11 inches long, 10 inches wide and 7.25 inches high to fit the switchgear boxes.
Art in Public Places will display the designs from June 20 through July 15 for residents to vote online or in-person. About seven to 10 boxes and artists will be chosen, and painting will begin later in the summer.
Chosen artists must attend a training with Longmont Power and Communications before painting the boxes, according to their model. They will receive a $2,000 stipend for their work.
Art in Public Places created Shock Art in 2010 to transform "dull" switchgear boxes throughout Longmont into pieces of art.
