Nov 05, 2023They're Greasing The Poles In Philly For Eagles NFC Championship Game
PHILADELPHIA — As the Philadelphia Eagles head into the NFC championship game Sunday, city officials are greasing up the poles. Philadelphia officials are preparing for revelry as the Eagles make a bid to enter Super Bowl LVII.
Those preparations include Philadelphia Police "greasing poles" as a deterrent for climbing poles and light fixtures. The greasing of the poles has become embedded in the city's sports culture.
The last time poles were greased was in October, when the Philadelphia Phillies secured their spot in the 2022 World Series.

One person was arrested for climbing a pole during those celebrations, but his charges were dropped due to a lack of evidence.
Twitter users took to the platform to simultaneously honor and mock the zany precautionary measure.
The city is also working to develop more safety plans for Sunday.
"Temporary No Parking Signs" may be popping up along the South Broad Street corridor and around City Hall, officials said.

The "No Parking Zone" will go into effect on Sunday at noon.
Vehicles parked in these areas during posted hours may be towed.
Call the police district of the area where your car was parked if you think it's been towed.
Temporary traffic closures may be put into place after Sunday's game.
These closures will help maintain public safety at the Sports Complex District, around City Hall, and surrounding Center City streets between 8th and 20th Streets and Race and Lombard Streets.
Drivers should expect delays and should use alternate routes in these areas.
"As is protocol, the City has put into motion initial preparations and precautions," city officials said. "Based on prior experience in these situations, and to control the flow of crowds, barricades have been put into place at key locations for public safety. The City and partners will share an update on preparations and anticipated impacts to streets and transit through a release later today. "
Philadelphia Police Captains are working with local business stakeholders to advise them on how to prepare for potential events in their corridors.
The Eagles will take on the San Francisco 49ers at 3 p.m. Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
